Care
How to Care for Your Ice Skating Apparel & Gear
Proper care helps your skating apparel and equipment last longer, maintain performance, and stay hygienic. Follow these guidelines to keep everything in its best condition:
1. Clothing & Training Apparel
Wash on gentle cycle with cold water.
Use mild detergent and avoid bleach or fabric softeners (they damage elasticity).
Air-dry only — never tumble dry, as heat degrades technical fabrics.
Wash separately from items with zippers or Velcro to avoid snags.
Turn garments inside out before washing to preserve color and print.
2. Performance Wear (Competition Dresses, Leotards, etc.)
Hand wash in cold water.
Do not wring or twist the fabric.
Lay flat on a clean towel to dry.
Avoid contact with perfumes, body oils, and deodorants that may stain delicate fabrics.
3. Skates & Blades
Wipe blades immediately after use with a soft dry cloth.
Use blade guards when walking off the ice, but remove them after use to avoid moisture buildup.
Store blades in terry cloth soakers, not plastic guards.
Keep skates in a cool, dry place — avoid car trunks or damp areas.
4. Accessories (Gloves, Guards, Pads)
Wash gloves regularly to prevent odors and bacteria.
For stretchy or padded accessories, cold water + gentle detergent is recommended.
Let accessories fully dry before storing.
5. Storage
Never leave items wet or zipped inside a tight bag.
Air out clothing and skates after each session.
For travel, use breathable skate bags rather than sealed plastic.
